Abstract
Patient in hospice clinics often have complex demands for holistic caring. This requires every health professional to pay her special attention to their psychological and mental agony as well as physical pains. Aromatherapy is a popular complementary/alternative medicine that understands human suffering with holistic approach. It has proved that aromatherapy provides effective and easily applicable curing methods for the patients with chronic diseases and eases their heavy burden of medical cost. Insofar as aromatherapy emphasizes holistic caring of human being rather than simple curing of disease, it contributes to the hospice practices that focus more on the improvement of quality that the quantity of a patient¡¯s life Aromatherapy is a highly accessible alternative medicine that patient and their family members can use in their daily life without special equipment. Considering current trend toward the customer-based medical service, aromatherapy can apply to the patients in both hospice clinics and home and improve their health problems. My study explores possible application of aromatherapy to the hospice patients who suffer from their feeling of helplessness. Hospice care, in its true sense, can be possible when it includes the psychological well-being of the patients¡¯ family members in this objects of caring. Aromatherapy is expected to provide effective methods to achieve this comprehensive goal, which eventually contributes to the holistic ideal of hospice care.
